Single Session Therapy

What is Single Session Therapy?

Single Session Therapy (SST) is for those seeking solution-focused, goal-oriented therapy. We aim to hone in on a specific issue to understand how it is impacting you, what the consequences of leaving it unresolved could be, and how we can utilise your existing strengths and resources to make steps towards change. You will leave the session with renewed energy and an actionable plan.

Is it right for me?

Although this is a solution-focused approach, at the core of my work I believe in being person-centred: this means you have the personal autonomy and power to decide what those solutions are. If you are looking for help on a key issue, or cannot commit to long term therapy, single session therapy could be for you. Importantly, the power is in your hands. SST can shed light on factors that may benefit from further exploration. My door is always open for further single sessions, or longer term work later down the line. The decision is yours.

What can I use it for?

SST is useful for gaining clarity and perspective on a particular problem. We aim to identify the core of the issue and create practical strategies, coping techniques and action plans that empower and motivate you to create change. It can be particularly useful for:-

-
Making challenging decisions
-
Addressing relationship concerns
-
Increasing confidence and motivation
-
Workplace dilemmas
-
Learning coping strategies for a given scenario
-
Unlocking a feeling of being stuck

What isn’t it for?

SST can be used for almost anything, but is less useful for longer term issues such as complex trauma that require more in depth exploration. Ultimately, I trust you to decide what you need. You are the expert on your own life. If SST isn’t the right fit, we can collaborate to decide what will work best, whether that’s longer term therapy with me, or being signposted to other services.

How much does it cost?

The cost is £90 for a 90 minute session. This includes a pre-session questionnaire which begins our work together, and a takeaway action plan to remind you of what we’ve discussed.

What if I feel like I need further support?

Part of our work will be to identify your existing support network and sometimes look to signpost you to other useful services such as Citizen’s Advice or appropriate charities. However, the option to come back for longer term counselling or another single session is always open. Single Session Therapy is meant as your starting point for change, where you go from there is in your hands.

Can I use this even if I have had therapy before?

Absolutely! If you have had therapy before with me or another therapist, you may just feel you need a one off session to voice any lingering concerns, consolidate and remind yourself of learning, or clarify any sticking points. The session is yours to use however you wish.
